Celebrating 3 years of living abroad

Quitting my job and moving abroad

It’s been three years since I quit my job in Austin and started working abroad.

It’s been a wild and wonderful three years. I have lived in the south of Spain, Northern Spain and Minas Gerais, Brazil. I was able to visit 11 countries and 17 autonomous Spanish communities. My quality of life and health were greatly improved due to public transportation, the ability to walk everywhere, access to universal health care and better regulations for food and produce. I began learning two languages, made lifelong friends from various countries, and had my beliefs challenged and reformed along the way.

Does my life look like some of my peers’? No.

Did a global pandemic force me and everyone else to rework all our plans and goals? Yes.

Would I do it again? Absolutely.

Making the transition from EFL teaching

I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) for the past three years. Although I enjoy teaching, I am ready to transition from this work. I want to be more serious about my writing and content creation while still being able to travel and spend time with loved ones. Right now, I believe it’s ethically impossible for me to travel abroad, and I am lucky enough that I can work from home.

I have been privileged to have opportunities every step of the way, and I hope to inspire more people to travel and offer them resources to do so. Remember, travel is not equitable for everyone, and we must all be able to move across borders freely.

Working on a travel guide for solo travelers

I am currently writing a guide geared toward solo travelers who want to live and work in another country. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about living and working abroad, EFL teaching or finding travel opportunities no matter your country or status.

See y’all in 2021 <3
